Arkitip Newspaper – Free Public Art Map
The idea of a Free Public Art map is a concept that I have wanted to explore since working as a fellow at the Walker Art Center. San Francisco happens to be a great city for this with a lot of public art on view daily. The problem is how do you go about locating all of this art as it is scatter throughout the city?
I really wanted my contribution to Arkitip Newspaper to feel like a gallery guide for getting out in the streets and seeing some art. I set out to provide a map and a list of relevant works/sculptures that I thought would make a good walking/biking tour through the streets of San Francisco (I am currently planning other maps like this for several other cities). Sadly, this map doesn't include everything that is out there on view. I had to strike a balance between the strong visual of the circular map and the patterns that I filled the type with.
